Crossovers: The New Vogue In Indian Auto Market


BANGALORE: Owing to the growing popularity of cars that emulate SUVs amongst the Indian car enthusiasts, crossovers are trending in the Indian Auto Industry.

Crossovers are the next big thing in the auto industry in India for the strikingly similar features they possess with the SUV construct such as the ground clearance, roof rails and the bold and dynamic styling, reports TOI.

Hyundai i20 ActiveFollowing Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura, now it’s Hyundai’s turn to test the waters of cross-over in the Indian car market. Hyundai joined the bandwagon with the launch of Hyundai i20 Active. The new crossover is built on the same Hyundai i20 Elite hatchback platform. The range starts from 6.38 lakh. The top ends of petrol and diesel variants are tagged at 7.09 lakh and 8.89 lakh respectively.

Maruti Suzuki, leading manufacturer in the country, is lagging behind and is yet to launch its S-Cross later this year.

Amidst this new trend, one might wonder the reason behind the surge of SUV styled cars. And the credits belong to Renault Duster and Ford Eco Sport which recognized the increasingly craze of Indians for these body styles.

These SUVs top the wishlist of Indian car enthusiasts more for their bold styling and off-roading features.

Crossovers on existing small cars should be promoted that have uncomplicated design, less expensive to produce and is a combo of compact vehicle and mini SUV. Although the existing crossovers haven’t collected much of sales, Hyundai looks positive to make it big with its new launch.
