5 Bad Business Decisions in History

BANGALORE: There will come a time when we have to make difficult decisions and in situations like these there are two outcomes, one where you reject the decision or second you make a decision without thinking. In both the scenarios the outcome is either for ruin or a cause to put your head down in shame. In history many business decisions were taken looking at the present scenario without considering the future outcome.

In this generation, we are expected to learn from the mistakes of the past and if we don’t then we are bound to make the same mistakes all over again. So in order to let the world know what happens when a decision is not made carefully, we decided to compile some of the worst business decisions in history.

Excites’ horrible decline: Back in the 90’s before Google and Yahoo made their fame with the internet search engine, Excite dominated the internet web world. They were the most visited web page and had annual revenue of $150 million. Slowly there arose a new contender, Google, started by Larry Page and Serge Brin, who discovered the search engineas part of their project for class.

When they figured that it was keeping them away from their studies and research, they decided to go and sell it to Excite for $1million. They were declined not once but twice. Finally they took the project forward and today it is one of the biggest companies in the world with annual revenue of $50 billion. Had Excite bought this company, or back in the day ‘idea’, they would be better off than they are presently. Excite is merged with ask.com and are known for just a few applications now.
