The brand Amul formed in 1946 is run by the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. This amalgamation of this cooperation is owned by 3 million milk producers in Gujarat.

The brand that incited the White Revolution in India was initiated by Dr Verghese Kurien (1973–2006), founder-chairman of the GCMMF. This milk brand stands firm as one of the largest milk products’ players in the country, enduring competition from several private players for years together.

It is an established fact among marketers that Coke took over the iconic soda drink Thums Up in 1993 from former owners Chauhan Brothers. The main reason for the possession was to put an end to the reign over the market which held the largest shares of 36 per cent.

However, even after the acquisition the drink continued to be favored by a large mass. The drink still retains the highest market share that stands at 16 per cent with Pepsi and Sprite at a close second (15 per cent).
