Bose Docks iPod

Friday, October 1, 2004
Framingham-based high-tech company Bose is jumping on the iPod bandwagon. Bose is launching a single-unit docking station and speaker system for Apple’s revolutionary music box—iPod and iPod minis. Its claim to fame is the lack of cables, adaptors or headphones with iPod owners needing to simply dock their player in the SoundDock.

The speaker system reportedly automatically matches its amplifier, equalizer and speakers so that you don’t need to muck about with adjusting the levels. An infrared remote means users can control their iPod from across the room. Slot your iPod into the SoundDock unit and play your 10,000 tunes out loud. And, of course, the music plays through those high-quality Bose speakers. Bose says it has been working on the product for about a year. It is expected to sell for $299. Will it be this year’s must-have Christmas gadget? At least Dr. Amar Bose believes so, who has just been selected to the Fortune list of five visionaries as this magazine goes to press. Impressive, eh?
