A true ‘IBMer’ through his life, Dr C Mohan was recently appointed as the Chief Scientist for IBM India. Nothing gives this hardcore techie—he claims to live only by technology with no interest in getting on to managerial roles—more excitement than leading the technical development of IBM in India. In his new position he will be the key representative of IBM India’s technical community with the government, academia, customers and business partners. “This is a great opportunity for me,” he said adding India was one of IBM’s emerging markets and hoped to establish research experience for the younger technical community.

A two-decade-old IBMer, Mohan started his career at IBM Research in San Jose (now know as IBM’s Almaden Research Center). He was named IBM Fellow in 1997, IBM’s highest technical position after 15 years into his career that he keeps as testimonial to his skills.

Thirty-four patents to his credit, Dr Mohan was featured as the person of the week on the online portal of siliconindia in 2000. An IIT (Madras) alumni, he completed his PhD with a dissertation on database management. He was named an ACM Fellow and an IEEE Fellow in 2000.
