Android 5.0 Lollipop: What's New?

# Kill Switch and Improved Security

Android 5.0 Lollipop will come with an opt-in kill switch which is also the 'Factory Reset Protection' allows the users to wipe out the device's data on permission. Once a user activates this feature, they will have to enter their Google login to factory reset the device which will only work when the phone’s pass code is enabled. Google also says that the new devices come with encryption turned on to help protect data on lost or stolen devices.

Other security options include SELinux which has better protection against vulnerabilities and malware and the Android Smart Lock feature to secure their device by pairing it with a device.

 # New Messenger App

There is a new Messenger app that will be on the Nexus 6 as part of Android 5.0 Lollipop which is said to be the easy version of the Google Hangouts but not a replacement for it says a Google spokesperson, "Messenger and Hangouts offer users choice, each have their own benefits. Hangouts work great for cross platform and cross medium communications.

Messenger will be specially designed to be a quick and easy way to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on Android; more to come."
