Samsung to Announce "Made in India" Tablet This Week

BENGALURU: Over the past few months, a lot of smartphone manufacturers including Lenovo, LG, and Vivo, announced their plans to manufacture phones in compliance with the ‘Make in India’ campaign. Likewise, in April, LG launched its K7 and K10, which were the Korean giant’s first smartphones to be made in India. Now, according to latest reports, Samsung is all set to unveil a new 7 inch tablet this week with many industry insiders claiming it to be the company’s first “Made in India” device.

As stated by various sources, including the Times of India, the tablet will be similar to the Samsung Galaxy A 7.0, introduced in March. The reports indicate that the tablet, apart from being a 7-inch device, will be powered by a Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor coupled with 1.5 GB RAM. Also, the device is expected to sport an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. However, the Galaxy A features a 5MP primary camera and a 2MP front camera. In terms of storage, the tablet will have an 8GB internal storage capacity, further expandable via a microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab A runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, but it is not sure if the new device will feature Lollipop or Marshmallow. The device is also reported to feature a 4000 mAH Li-ion battery. In addition, the 7-inch tablet will come with all the usual connectivity features including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and microUSB. Samsung is already facing severe competition from Xiaomi’s Mi Pads in the budget tablet segment. The new device, if priced rightly, will help Samsung reinforce its position in the segment and see off competitors.
