Motorola's Spectacular Launches At Lenovo Tech World 2016

BENGALURU: Lenovo Tech World 2016, held at San Francisco saw the launch of Motorola’s much awaited Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones; but that was not all, Moto Mods, as the company terms functions like a physical ‘add on’ enhancement to the smartphones which can easily be snapped on magnetically on to the smartphone. With Moto Mods, the phone could be transformed into a 70 inch movie projector (Moto Insta-Share Projector), JBL SoundBoost speaker, Power Pack: capable of providing 22 hours of additional battery life or even adorn a personalized style shell. Motorola has partnered with premier companies like Kate spade New York, TUMI and Incipio for the matter. The company assures that Moto Mods are designed to work with future generations of Moto Z phones as well.

Through the Official Motorola Blog post, the company has invited the public for their ideas on leveraging the Moto Mods ecosystem. “We’re also providing an open architecture and the tools you need to bring your own idea to life. Through the new Moto Mods Developer Program, small developers to established enterprises will have the unprecedented opportunity to help build a complete ecosystem that maximizes innovation and redefines the future of mobile. “It read.

To spur public participation, Motorola has stated that the Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group (LCIG) has set aside $1,000,000 in equity funding for the individual or company that creates the best Moto Mods prototype by March 31, 2017. Information regarding the Moto Mods development kit and certification process has been made available at developer.motorola.com. Moto Mods appears to have a similar stance to that Google’s Project Ara.

Moto Z as the company claims would be the world’s thinnest premium smartphone at 5.2mm made from aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel. The device boasts a 5.5” Quad HD AMOLED display Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 820 processor; 4GB of RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB of storage with support for microSD card up to 2 TB, 13MP camera with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus. The front facing 5MP camera includes a wide-angle lens and is enhanced with a flashlight for low light shooting. Other features include water repellent coating, finger print reader and a TurboPower that promises 8 hours of power from just fifteen minutes of charging.

Much of the features of companion smartphone Moto Z Force are similar to the former apart from the 21MP camera, featuring optical image-stabilization, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and laser autofocus. It is also geared with 40 hours of battery life with TurboPower offering 15 hours of battery life through 15 minutes of charging. Moto Z Force is evidently made to be more robust given it is the second generation of Motorola’s offerings employing Moto ShatteShield technology.
