Microsoft Prepares Super-Cheap Windows Laptops to Battle Chromebooks

BANGALORE: Microsoft to give chromebooks some stiff competiton. At the company's annual Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner revealed that HP is planning to release a $199 ( 12,000) Windows laptop called the ‘Stream’ this holiday season and at the same time they are planning to release 7and 8 inch versions of tablets for just $99(6,000).

Turner said, "We are going to participate at the low-end” and he was quick to add that, "We’ve got a great value proposition against Chromebooks, we are not ceding the market to anyone,” reports Times of India. At these super affordable price points, the Stream would come at a bargain, beating out many of Google's affordable cloud-powered laptops like the Dell Chromebook 11 and Toshiba Chromebook.

Turner didn’t provide specifications for HP’s "Stream" device, but he did specify $249 laptop options from Acer and Toshiba. Acer’s low-cost laptop will come with a 15.6-inch screen and a 2.16GHz Intel Celeron processor, and Toshiba will have 11.6-inch display. It appears that Intel’s Celeron chips will help Microsoft’s PC partners push out cheaper devices to the bottom.

Apparently, Microsoft also marketed Windows as a better option than Chromebooks. Exclusively, the Redmond Company stressed Windows is better at running desktop applications, working offline and sending files directly to a printer.
