HTC Looks to Revive Its Fortunes With The Launch of HTC 10

BENGALURU: At the beginning of this decade, HTC was a dominant force in the global smartphone arena with over 20 percent market share. However, the last couple of years saw the Taiwanese firm lose sizeable amounts of its market share to extreme competition from Chinese makers like Xiaomi and Huawei. In a bid to regain its fading glory and lost market, HTC launched its newest flagship smartphone, the HTC 10, back in April. Now, with the device all-set to be unveiled in India over the next few days, here is a sneak peek of the much hyped smartphone.

HTC 10 is a strongly built device in an all aluminium uni-body design that features a 5.2 inch QHD super LCD display with a resolution of 1,440x2,560 pixels and a pixel density of 564ppi. The device is fitted with BoomSound technology enhanced speakers and Dolby Surround system. At its core is the all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM. The smartphone has two internal memory variants–32 GB and 64 GB–both expandable up to 2TB via microSD cards. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow skinned with HTC Sense UI on top.

In addition, HTC 10 comes with a fingerprint sensor attached to the front button and supports Quick Charge 3.0. One of the major issues with HTC, as cited by many experts, was its failure to increase the pixel size of its cameras. The HTC 10 has addressed the issue by sporting a 12 MP UltraPixel laser autofocus primary camera with dual tone LED flash, BSI sensor, and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The 5 MP front-facing camera in the device also features both BSI sensor and OIS with auto-selfie option.

Connectivity features in the device include 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, and DLNA. The phone boasts of a 3000 mAH battery and USB Type-C charging. Another device, HTC 10 Lifestyle, with Snapdragon 652 processor and 3GB RAM is expected to be announced simultaneously with the HTC 10. The Taiwanese tech giant’s fortunes hugely rests upon these new devices to drag the company out of its current slump.
