BlackBerry Unveils Z30, A 5-Inch Smartphone

Bangalore: BlackBerry, the Canadian phone maker officially introduced Z30, its new model in the Z series featuring 5-inch display, stereo speakers, bigger battery and the latest version of BB10 Operating System.

CEO Thorsten Heins states that BlackBerry Z30, which was previously known as the A10, will be a successor of Z10 and Q10. But after the disappointing sales of BlackBerry10 devices, concerns are mounting on Z30’s viability in the market. A recent report on the company’s decision to lay off 40 percent workforce is also being speculated as a subject of concern.

With other Smartphone giants swallowing up the market with their Smartphones like Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and Apple’s phone 5C and 5S, Blackberry took a low key in its Z30 franchise as it did not include a major press conference unlike it did for Z10 launch previously.

BlackBerry Z30 features a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.7-gigahertz processor with Quad-Core Adreno 320 GPU. It also includes a large 2,880 mAh battery that approximately serves 25 hours on random usage. In addition to this, it has stereo speakers and Paratek Antenna technology for better connection in low-signal areas.

On the software front, the Z30 runs on the latest BlackBerry10.2 OS, which includes a plethora of new features: an enhanced Hub to prioritize important contacts and messages, a new notification system for BlackBerry Messenger, and includes new icons on the lock screen for better notification and messaging. BB 10.2 OS version will be available to existing Blackberries by mid of October.

Starting next week, the Z30 will hit selected number of retailers in the U.K and in the Middle East. The launch date on rest areas including Canada and U.S. will be revealed soon.
