After the Success of Smartphones and Search Engine, Google Now Eyes on High End Smartwatches

BENGALURU: Recent rumours suggest that Google, a big time search engine and smartphone giant is now planning to introduce its own smartwatches integrated with Google Assistant. A recent image doing the rounds on the internet claims to be the rumored smartwatch model. The image was shared by the Android Police website and it displays two smartwatches with code names 'Swordfish' and 'Angelfish'. The two watches are expected to be launched with the Google Nexus smartphones later this year.

The 'Angelfish' smartwatch, which appears to be the larger one out of the two, features a notable crown button alongside the two extra buttons on the top and bottom. Standing apart from other smartwatch faces, the Angelfish will come up with a new watch face that meticulously shows more details in it. Rumors also suggest that the model will not be compatible with the Google MODE Android Wear watch bands. Featuring innovative functions such as a GPS, heart rate monitor and 4G LTE connectivity, the product is expected to be a completely standalone gadget. Whereas, the smaller smartwatch, known as the 'Swordfish' seems to be simple and compact. Compared to the 'Angelfish', it is thinner and lighter, and will also support Google’s MODE Android Wear watch bands. Additionally, the report mentions that there will be a minor gap between the visible area and the watch body. The ‘Swordfish’ whereas, will exclude features such as GPS and LTE connectivity.

According to the website, the watches are still in the prototyping stage, clearly indicating that the final product model may vary from these rumoured images. The company has also announced that it will release a major update for its Android Wear platform at the Google I/O 2016.
