6 TV Predictions That Became A Reality

2. Prediction in the 80s: HD-TV; Now: High Definition TV: It has become more main-stream off late but it was predicted as early as 1989. The benchmark for what constituted perfect visual quality in that era was 35mm film. However, the TV manufacturers of today are not bringing out that comparison.

The aim for High-Definition TV is to look like 35mm film with rich tones and enhanced clarity. Its goal is to bring an end to fuzzy edges and low saturation for the TV of tomorrow.

Alec Shapiro, coordinator for high-definition equipment manufacturers claimed that while HDTV delivers 35mm film quality, "HDTV has its own distinct look. It does for the eyes what CDs did for the ears," reports Times of India.

3. Prediction in the 80s: Flat TV; Now: Flat Panel TV: In the last decade, TV has jumped from being an appliance that sat on the table to the one which is like a piece of art on the wall.

Video Magazine editor Lance Braithwaite said, "There is an aesthetic push for flat TVs.” But the question is about the cost to be paid by the consumer. Manufacturers have been exploring the feasibility of a full-size flat TV, which is expected to be based on LCD technology.
