Spice Mi-425 Stellar

Price: Rs. 9000 - Rs. 10000
The Good : Built wise this phone is good looking. The 1Ghz processor is a brownie for this price tag and the upgradability to ICS is a blessing. And the phone supports dual-SIM.

The Bad : The phone is bit on the bulky side, its heavy. The screen is not at all great and the battery life is average.

Look and Feel : Spice has made this phone look really stylish. The front panel, the front camera and the metallic looking plastic bezel all together gives an elegant look to the device. But when you hold it in your hands you will realize the actual not-so-good quality of the phone.

The device is sturdy and a bit heavy. There is no Spice logo in the front panel, the rear panel has the branding name. There are four touchscreen buttons on the front, a Micro-USB unit at the bottom right, a 3.5mm jack at the top towards left, the power button on top right and a volume rocker on the left side. The device comes with 140 MB internal memory and there is a microSD card slot to expand the memory up to 32GB.

Processor and Interface : The device comes powered by a 1GHz single core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and has 512 MB of RAM. The graphics runs on Adreno 200 GPU. At present the phone holds Android 2.3 Gingerbread but it is upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The device also comes pre-loaded with apps like Spice Gang, Rail Yatra, Max Bupa, BSE/NSE Stocks, Live Aarti and YouTube.

Features and Performance :

Camera : The rear side has a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging and digital zoom, and lets you capture images with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. There is a 0.3 MP front-facing VGA camera.

The clicks from the camera is passable, some images gets a little blur sometime. The videos recorded are not that sharp and the camera is not good for indoor shooting.

Media and Connectivity : In terms of audio the device is one of the good ones with customized media player and default Music app. The audio quality is average and the phone comes with FM radio capability.
The 4-inch screen with 480x800 resolution is not that bright, but the device manages to give a good experience with apps, games and videos. The phone supports standard video player and can’t open MOV, MP4 or FLV formats.

For connectivity the phone has two SIM card slots and the master SIM card can access internet, both 2G and 3G. There is the presence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Battery Life : Spice Mi-425 Stellar has a 2000mAh battery which performs way better than many other Android phones in the market. But still the battery is average with life of about 7 hours. Sometimes the device is getting heat-up while charging and using intensive applications.

The Bottom Line : If you are in a mood to try out the Android experience without shedding more than Rs.10,00, then this phone is a good option. The screen is not usable outdoor, the phone is bulky and the battery life is average, but still you can buy this phone for its looks, Android experience and off-course the price.
