What Successful Investors and Rahul Dravid have in Common

Be consistent

Dravid started out as a middle order batsman, with a batting average in the single digits. He worked his way up, however, until he eventually scored 12 centuries through the course of his career, and retired with a batting average of 39.9.

If the initial returns on your investments are not as large as some others, don’t despair: keep investing. Regular investments will reap modest revenue, and you can set realistic goals and hone your skills by steadily improving your profit margins.

Think rationally

Rahul Dravid is the epitome of the rational sportsperson. He was often the last man called out to bat, due to his mental resilience. Even in matches where it seemed like a turnaround was impossible, he chose the best strategy and stuck to it, as in the famous Kolkata Match of 2001, where Dravid and VVS Laxman played for 384 runs and eventually beat Australia’s score of 446.

Similarly, it is important for investors not to panic-sell during tough times, to think logically and follow good principles of investing. If the whole stock market is down, all prices will fall, but always analyze the reasons behind staying or pulling out of a certain stock.
