"In order to ensure a hassle-free and timely refund, you should provide correct details, such as the bank account number and MICR code of the bank branch, in the tax return. This will facilitate direct credit of the tax refund amount in the tax payer's bank account," says Vineet Agarwal as quoted by ET Bureau.

If you request a refund via cheque, make sure that all important details like your address are mentioned correctly in your form. By any chance, if the income tax refund cheque reaches after its expiration date, you can immediately contact the particular tax ward and ask for a re-issue.

"If you have opted to receive the refund by way of cheque, then you should make sure that you mention your permanent address in the tax return form. Else if you happen to change the address before the receipt of the refund, the cheque would be returned undelivered to the tax department," says Sonu Iyer as quoted by ET Bureau.

It should be noted that the expiry date on cheques was six months earlier, but now it has been changed to 3 months from the date of issue.

Moreover, newly-married/divorced females should ensure that the name in the bank account provided is the same as the one on the PAN card. "There could be a possibility of change in name in case women change their second name after marriage," says Vaibhav Sankla as quoted by ET Bureau.
