May, The Month of Curse for Street

This was a historical moment of sensex getting lower, and as per norms, the BSE and NSE was stopped for an hour.

Exactly two years after that Black Monday, on 18th May 2006, the sensex again crashed nearly 7 percent. It was primarily due to fears of a new tax on FIIs.

Now this ‘May of even numbered year (2012)’ has come and there are host of notions, both domestic and global issues are affecting investors, like the controversial General Anti-Avoidance Rule (GAAR) which aims mainly to tax errant overseas investors misusing the tax treaties.

Then there is also India's rising crude oil prices and dipping export earnings, slowdown in China and Eurozone recession - all these factors are pushing the market players to keep their fingers crossed.

On the positive note, according to the head of equity sales at a local brokerage, the market saw that whenever investors have become extremely pessimistic, the market has surprisingly gone up.
