Highest Paid Hedge Fund Managers

3. James Harris ‘Jim’ Simons

Earned: $2.1 Billion

Assets Under Management: $20 Billion

Simons is an American philanthropist, mathematician and hedge fund manager. He is the founder of Renaissance Technologies, a private investment company. In 2011, Renaissance Institutional Equities Fund shares’ jumped by a whopping 34 percent. Returns gathered from Renaissance and Medallion funds helped Simons earn more than $2 billion in 2011. Most of the proceeds were generated from returns on his personal funds. He received this money though he retired in the year 2010. This phenomenal performance came after the co-CEOs of Renaissance wanted to shut the firm down forcibly. This was so because the firm had sustained 2 successive years of losses from 2007 – 2009. Still, Simons pulled the company up owing to his sound knowledge.
