“Some universities insist on certain specific requirements such as a minimum medical sum insured, coverage of mental and nervous disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and inter-collegiate sports injuries," says Sanjay Datta, chief of underwriting and claims, ICICI Lombard.

There are many insurers like ICICI Lombard, Bajaj Allianz and Tata-AIG who allow students to apply for their insurance policy. According to Dr. Renuka Kanvinde, assistant vice-president of Bajaj Allianz General, students can buy insurance cover by just filling up online proposal form along with their admission, visa and other details to complete the procedure. This means that you can complete all the procedures even there are just two days left to start towards your destination country.

1. A Little Bit of Research

First of all, find out from your university if you can buy insurance policy from India. Conduct thorough research on the companies that are offering health insurance for overseas student.

ICICI Lombard, Bajaj Allianz and Tata-AIG General are some of the insurance companies that offer travel insurance for students who are willing to study abroad.
