Expectations High On Modi's Budget Regarding Indirect Tax

Pre- Deposits Provision: FinanceIn its last year budget, the government introduced provisions for fixed pre- deposits, where 7.5 percent was made mandatory for filing appeal with the commissioner at the first stage. For filling second stage another 10 percent of duty is imposed.

These difficulties in different stages are affecting a lot in the procedure of filing appeal in front of the Appellate Tribunal. So, it’s high time for the government to rethink on its pre-deposit provision.

Service Tax On Educational Institutes: The Union Budget last year imposed service tax on educational services. It has resulted in increase in the cost of education and its services, there by leading to an adverse effect on the education sector.

So, it’s important to reconsider the service tax imposed on educational institutes in this budget session for the growth of the educational sector.

Penalty Rates On Interest: The government increased the interest rates for delaying payment of service tax in the last year’s Union Budget. The penalty charged for a delay over a period of six months and up to a year is 24 percent and subsequently it has now increased to 30 percent.

This may be good for the assesses, who are found to be intentionally defaulted in their payments. These rates are needed to be considered and revised again to avoid any unfair practice.
