Budget 2012: Voice of Salaried Professionals

4. Reimbursement of medical expenses:
Reimbursement of medical expenses
Cost of basic medical facilities has sky rocketed over the years and the limit set in April of 1999 which is 15,000 per annum for employees or their family members seems like peanuts with rising illnesses and health problems. From the existing 15,000 to 60,000 for senior citizens and 40,000 for other individuals would be a more realistic. 5. Re-introduction of standard deduction from salary: Till the financial year 2004-05, a standard deduction of 40 percent was made on every employees' salary or 30,000 (whichever was less) was allowed for salaried employees whose salary did not exceed 5,00,000. In case of employees whose salary exceeded 5,00,000, the standard deduction allowed was Rs 20,000. But this exists no more. Re-introduction of the standard deduction provisions will bring cheer to individuals belonging to the salaried class.
