Best Indian Banks 2013

The Indian banking system’s assets are at an alarming at more than 6 percent. In this, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Central Bank of India and Allahabad Bank has stood out with an outstanding restructured asset at more than 10 per cent.

RBI governor, Raghuram Rajan recently spoke about ways to speed up the loan recovery process through debt recovery tribunals and asset reconstruction companies. "Our institutions dealing with distress are under-developed. That will make it hard for banks to take risks if they have no hope for recovery. We have to improve them."

Weakening asset quality is affecting the banks that are constantly putting tremendous pressure on banks' capital base. According to the RBI, Indian banks are expected to raise 2.7 trillion of tier-I equity capital in the next five years.
