Where Does India Rank In Financial Literacy?


Bangalore: India is a developing country and has 74.04 percent of literacy rate. But how much literacy does Indian have about finance? And where does India stand among the world in Financial Literacy? May be you don’t have an answer for these hence the Global Financial Literacy Barometer released in the Financial Literacy and Education Summit 2012 in Chicago, revealed data about the financial literacy levels of 28 nations, in which brazil topped the list and Pakistan remained at the bottom. Visa had sponsored this survey conducted among 25,000 participants, between February and April of 2012.

Having the most literate population, Brazil had topped the list of financial literacy level. Brazilians think that, children should be educated about finance from a very tender age of 9. Among all other countries Brazilians stand second in discussing about money matters with their kids. At least for 38 day in a year parents talk to their children about money.

Mexican ranks second in financial literacy level but they are the one, who most often talk to their little ones about money. As parents, they have out shined in discussing about money with their kids for 41 day.

Australians being third in financial literacy is among the countries that plan for household budget and follow it regularly. But a majority of Australians thinks that the young generations do not understand financial basics.

# 4 United States of America (USA)

In USA, for a majority of population the age for securing financial literacy is 12 years. American families talk about money 28 days in a year, though it ranks sixth in planning and following household budget.
