Rupee Extends Gains, Up 11 Paise against Dollar

Mumbai: The rupee added to its gains by rising 11 paise to a fresh three-week high of 67.74 against the dollar today on continued selling of the U.S. currency by banks and exporters and a robust opening in the equity market.

Fresh foreign funds inflow supported the local currency, but dollar's strength against others overseas capped the rupee's gain.

The rupee had logged this year's biggest single-day gain of 57 paise to close at a nearly three-week high of 67.85 in yesterday's session on fresh selling of dollars in view of a sharp recovery in domestic stocks.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex regained the crucial 24,000-mark by surging 431.27 points, or 1.81 percent, to trade at 24,210.62 in early trade.
