RBI To Decide On Online Credit: Raghuram Rajan

BANGALORE:  As the use of online portals in the country has increased over the years and the mobile wallets are very much active, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is on its way to make online payments simpler for the customers. According to the new scenario there might be a possibility of being able to buy products on credit from online if the RBI approves this, reports rediff.com

The RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan while attending an award function at Hyderabad stated that “There is a possibility... we are examining it; you could get credit from these internet marketing platforms. These platforms are bringing about a logistics revolution in the country; they create a lot of demand for rail, air and road logistics. For small bank transactions, if banks or credit card providers are willing to take the risk, RBI may perhaps allow small-value payments based on direct usage of cards without a second level of protection.”

He also mentioned about the importance of Information technology in the growth of banking sector and banking security as a big area of challenge that all central banks were concerned about. He also advised the banks to make use of information available about the customers in order to offer them with new services, if not then those banks might face challenges from modern banks in near future.
