5 Workplace Benefits That Are Fast Disappearing


BANGALORE: Slash health care coverage and frozen wages were the characteristic of the recession, at least for those who held onto their jobs. Though the economy has improved, many of the employee benefits that were once guaranteed, now appears to be a thing of past. Here is the list of such perks have disappeared, as reported by Emily Brandon of Yahoo Finance.

Pensions

The traditional pension plans that were offered at 40 percent of the companies surveyed in 2011 has witnessed a drastic fall to 24 percent this year. In contrast the more commonly offered retirement benefits, the 401k, is now offered at 89 percent with plan or similar type of retirement account and 74 percent provide an employer contribution to the retirement account.

"Fewer large employers provide a defined-benefit, pension, shifting more of the responsibility for retirement to defined-contribution plans, which necessitates that employees be very active in the oversight and management of lifetime income," said Shane Bartling, a retirement leader for Towers Watson in San Francisco.
