RAJUVEGESNA: INVENTOR,VISIONARY, ENTREPRENEUR Chairman &Managing Director, Sify Technologies Ltd. The story of Raju Vegesna is a reflection of the classic dream of a middle class Indian household. Except that he has set the bar higher. Not content with being just an Executive, he chose to tread the path of Entrepreneurship and leverage his vision for technology. His innate ability to spot the next big wave and leadership skills have resulted in his multidecade series of successes in high technology industries. Vegesna currently serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of sify Technologies Limited, a publicly traded Internet and eCommerce services company based in India after having purchased a major stake in 2005. Realizing the emerging potential for Enterprise IT business both within and outside India, Vegesna set about re-aligning the company’s focus areas. Less than half a decade later, sify is now recognized as a leader in the fast growing segments of managed IT services, Connectivity, Voice and Cloud services. Until recently, Vegesna was the Founder and CEO of Server Engines, an industry leader in network and storage convergence products that grew rapidly from its inception in 2003, with significant operations in California, Texas and India. Server Engines was acquired in August, 2010, by Emulex, and Mr. Vegesna joined Emulex as Chief Strategist, responsible for the company’s strategic direction and evangelizing the adoption of Emulex products to key customers and partners.Vegesna’s track record as an entrepreneur is unassailable having founded multiple highly-successful startup companies. In 1994, prior to his current involvement with Server Engines and Sify, Vegesna founded Server Works Corporation and, as Chairman and CEO, led Server Works to become the world leader in computer chipsets, commanding a 90 percent market share in the x86 server chipset market. In 2001, Server Works was acquired by Broadcom Corporation for US $1.8 billion. Before founding Server Works Corporation, Vegesna co-founded and served as Chief Architect of Ross Technology Inc., where he spearheaded the creation of the Hyper Sparc processor, a CPU that was used by Sun Micro systems to create its first multiprocessor computer servers. Prior to joining Ross Technology, Vegesna worked as a principle engineer for Motorola, where he created the microcode for Motorola’s 68030

processor and the specification for the 68040 microprocessor. Awards and commendations have come in plenty for his entrepreneurial exploits. A few among them being the India Splendor Award event at UCLA in 2007 and the honor and felicitation by the U.S Congress, California Legislature and City of Los Angeles at the 25th Asia Society Southern California Conference for exemplary dedication to strengthening the relationship between the U.S and Asia. Vegesna received a master’s degree in computer engineering fromWayne State University and a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Bangalore University in India, and holds several patents and publications on microprocessors and multiprocessor technologies. A keen collector of music and sports memorabilia, Vegesna has in his collection, a pair of boxing gloves used by the legendary boxer, Mohammed Ali, guitars used by Eric Clapton and Rolling Stones and the latest of them all, the cricket ball used in the historic world cup cricket finals between India and Sri Lanka. His yearn for collectibles is balanced out by a well-entrenched and focused philanthropic effort. Through his personal initiatives and his U.S. and India charitable organizations, The Raju Vegesna Foundation (USA) and The Raju Vegesna Foundation (India), Vegesna has undertaken an ambitious program to address the availability of clean Water and Education for communities in need. Several water recycling plants, schools and destitute homes stand testimony to a larger desire to give back to the community on a sustained and generous basis.
