About the Company

Pay1 was founded in 2010 with four founders. The vision of the company is selling digital goods & services to Indian consumers through cash. Pay1 realized that the payment is being the biggest road block towards the direction, as there is no seamless cash gateway available today which is recognizable by the consumer and easily available just like mobile recharges at finger tips today which are next door. Using smartphones and internet may be a major ground level problem which can be solved. However, the revenue model will always be a problem for application & content developers. Pay1 took this as an opportunity and pursued it well towards the direction of making payment earlier for mobile commerce. Today, the company has more than 25,000 daily active transactional outlets and in totality more than 50,000 retail stores. It covers more than 50 cities in India with more than 8 million unique customer footfalls monthly.

Market Landscape

Payment is a huge opportunity in all developing economies like India. Especially cash being the major problem towards the rapid digital transformation of India, as a large chunk of consumers still prefer to pay by cash over digital payment option available today. E-commerce without Cash-On-Delivery is unimaginable even today. A huge market exists for digital goods and services. However, there is no simple way to pay for digital goods like games, apps, tickets or services. There is an emerging digital economy in India growing rapidly and is waiting for an explosion and cash is still the pre-dominant & preferred payment option in India.

Nationwide ratio of cash versus card users is not very encouraging and has not changed much in the past one decade. Enabling digital transactions using cash as an easiest possible manner for the consumers is what Pay1 aims at. This will enable consumers to access wide range of digital products like movies, games, apps using cash as payment option. This will also open up new market opportunity for various digital Business and they will be able to collect cash for their digital products.

Challenges

Pay1 is on a mission mode to reach out to as many pin codes in India with their network expansion. The company envisions having a Pay1 Retailer in every locality in India. With more than 50,000 active base, the challenge is still about reaching to tier 2 and 3 cities and keep reaching even to village level. They are deploying various innovative methods to expand rapidly and build a strong retail partner network. These have shown tremendous results which are reflecting in their transaction value growing 300 percent in the past one year.

Pay1 started off with Mumbai and has a very good presence in every nook n corner of this city. Other than that they have been able to serve 45-50 cities in India including Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Surat, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Lucknow, Patna, Agra etc. the company is currently serving 7 million customers every month.
Pay1 also has a great in-house tech team to get things roll out in no time. They also have negligible or 1-2 percent attrition rate with high employee satisfaction makes the organization strong and positive.

Roadmap

In the years to come, Pay1 envisions having its presence across India, in each city/locality of the nation by making convenience available to people next door with the presence of small or big retail stores. Other than this, they are soon going to explore various options in the field of mobile POS or ATM spaces; that would convert their stores as mini ATMs.
