Will Obama Open Gates To Technology Industry Immigrants Now?

In a letter he sent last month to NY Tech Meetup, which has more than 27,000 members, Obama said he planned to recruit 10,000 math and science teachers over the next decade and train 2 million workers for high-tech jobs.

But top visa reforms may not get ready acceptance, as Obama needs help from congress, which got divided after this election. The Democrats maintained control of Senate and Republicans kept control of the House. However the issue of visas for highly-skilled immigrants has faced opposition in both parties. The STEM jobs act which would have granted more visas for immigrants with math and science degrees, which got wide support from the tech community failed to pass because Democrats demanded more comprehensive immigration reform.

And then there is controversy involved too, the influx of the foreign born workers may deprive U.S. born to get employment.

Now the election is over, which gave second term to Obama, the tech industries hoping him to deliver what he said.
