Bangalore: It all started back in the 60s when Hollywood adapted its first superhero movie from the small screen. Then in the late 70s it was fueled by the enormously successful Superman. Later somehow the glamor of superheros' got lost with many films failing both critically and commercially.
The supers went through a slow phase in Hollywood with fewer and fewer films getting released in the genre. Then in 2002 came the move that redefined the entire scenario and gave this genre a rebirth; Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. The movie met with unprecedented critical and commercial success and made studios realize the immense potential of the supers. The movie practically unleashed a wave of superhero movies in Hollywood, of which several movies met with overwhelming critical and commercial reception, notably Christopher Nolan movies Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and Jon Favreau's Iron Man series.
Now it seems it's raining Superheroes in the Hollywood again. This summer was kicked off by the superhero movie Thor, which will be followed by the installments about his fellow Avengers; The Green Lantern and Captain America.
