4) Saptak Music Festival

Saptak Music Festival is conducted every year in the 1st and 2nd weeks of January in Ahmedabad. This festival lasts for 11 to 13 days. This festival was started by D.D. Trivedi, Bharti Parikh, Rupande Shah and Nandan and Manju Mehta in 1980. Late Pandit Kishan Maharaj and Pandit Ravi Shankar had blessed it on its genesis. A charitable trust running Saptak School of Music conducts this festival. The main attractions of this show are - Rajasthani and Punjabi folk music, Tala Vadya Kacheri and dance performances. Many dedicated musicians, especially instrumentalists and vocalists, from all over the country come to this festival. Vanishing forms of vocal music, such as – Dhrupad and Thumri and instruments, such as – Pakhawaj and Sarangi are being revived through this festival.
