It is one of the major Asia-based oil and gas exploration and production companies, and produces around 77 percent of India's total basic oil production (and around 30 percent of total demand) and around 81 percent of natural gas production.  ONGC is one of the chief publicly traded companies by market capitalization in India and the biggest India-based company measured by profits.
