4. Siemens

Siemens Information Systems or Siemens India was founded in 1992. The company is best recognized in history for structuring the first direct telegraph line connecting London and Calcutta.

Siemens set up a branch in India as early as 1922, in Mumbai and Kolkata. Its first workshop was located under the bridge of, what is today, the Mahalaxmi Railway Station in Mumbai. In 1957, Siemens was included as a corporation under the Indian Companies Act as Siemens Engineering & Manufacturing. In 1961, Siemens became a public limited company with restricted external shareholding and was listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange a decade later.

5. General Electric

GE has been present in India since 1902 when it installed India’s first hydropower plant. Today the company brings the best of GE to India by creating technologies and innovations in India, for India. In 2011, GE ranked among the Fortune 500 as the 6th-largest firm in the U.S. by gross revenue.
