The Indian Army Open to Socialize Online

The decision was taken on the grounds of security issues and internal threat. These decisions were enforced after a Naval Board of Inquiry (BoI) had decided to take action against four senior naval officers who were alleged of leaking highly classified information through social networking sites.

However the ban only seemed as a temporary fix to the situation. Globally, in many countries, the Armed Forces have created impressive sites with details on the on-going state of affairs. Like in the U.S., the army has social network where it updates about the challenges the officers' face. It also uses the media to motivate youngsters to join the army and serve the nation. India cannot ignore the benefits of social media and practice secure ways to use it to enhance the Armed Forces.

The Indian Army has changed its perception about socialising, which is just a start for a long term relationship. It has also received insights from Shashi Tharoor, one of the most followed politicians on Twitter who advised that the force should have ‘Indian Army’ in the name or its handle.

With some good tips and some reasonable hours on the account, the site will begin to shape into an effective Indian Army account, very soon.
