Bangalore: It's the era of smartphones, all one needs is the tip of your finger to communicate to the world. From the first mobile telephone call made from a car occurred in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. on June 17, 1946 till today, the telecom industry have shoot upwards covering many milestone.
From a bulky instrument it turned into a portable device for which Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive is the man behind. But how many of you are aware of its process of evolution and the journey that it covered to reach to the point that they are.
Let's get a sneak peek into the long voyage of smartphone.
1. 1992
The first smartphone called the 'IBM Simon' emerged in 1992; it was released to the public in 1993 and sold by BellSouth. Besides being a mobile phone, it also contained a calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, note pad, e-mail client, the ability to send and receive faxes, and games. It had no physical buttons, instead customers used a touchscreen to select telephone numbers with a finger or create facsimiles and memos with an optional stylus.
The year 1992 also marks the first ever SMS sent stating Happy Christmas.
