With huge competition prevailing between the two FMCG companies, Unilever and Procter & Gamble, Unilever announced the launch of a powerful new formula called as Persil Power which excited many consumers about its apparent ability to fight any stain. But, the product proved to be so powerful that it not only destroyed the stains, in certain cases it also destroyed the clothes as well. One of the issue with the brand was its key asset - a patented manganese component called an accelerator that was put in the powder - also proved to be its fatal flaw. As soon as the matter became public about the damage that the detergent do to the clothes, most retailers quickly took the product from their shelves. Later on, Unilever replaced Persil Power with Persil New Generation and today, the company has come up from the disastrous stain that Persil Power put on it.
