Swami Vivekananda: A Turning Point in History of India

This year on the 12th of January 2013, it marks the 150th birthday of Swami Vivekananda. With his ground-breaking ideas on religion and philosophy, this Indian Hindu monk created a stir in the Western world and made a strong impression of himself on the Indians too. As a mark of honor, a book has been prepared on Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary, signifying the process of change that he started.

The book is enriched with thoughts from many scholars from across the world and from monks and nuns of the order. It also includes a poem written by Swami Vivekananda, titled ‘Hold on yet a while braveheart.’ Loaded with many nuggets of wisdom, the book has an article on him and the ideal women of the future, an observation made by Swami Vivekananda over 100 years ago. He wrote, “In India there are two great evils — trampling on women and grinding of the poor... There is no hope for the rise of that family or nation where there is no estimation of women or where they live in sadness,” as reported by Indrani Dutta for The Hindu.
