Bayerische Motoren Werke / Bavarian Motor Works. The company was named after the region of the automaker where it is founded and is currently headquartered- Bavaria in Germany.

BMW evolved from Rapp Motorenwerke, which was one of the first aircraft engine manufacturers in Germany at the turn of the 20th Century. It underwent numerous mergers and changes before becoming one of the brands which produce some unparalleled automobiles and motorcycles.
