The Worst Tech Decisions Of All Time

Selling PayPal
One of the worst decisions was the acquisition of PayPal by eBay for $1.5 billion in July 2002. It went public in 2002 at a $1.2 billion valuation, despite having a revenue ran rate at the time they were bought of $160 million and losses of $80 million. The deal was almost 10 percent of eBay’s value at the time. Today, eBay is a $40 billion company in terms of its market capital where as PayPal can easily worth over $30 billion. But if PayPal would have been an independent company, the valuation must have been much more than what it is today. No big innovation has been done yet in the payment sector thus downgrading the deal.
