The dot-com bubble just burst when Audrey hit the market in 2002. Audrey, an internet appliance from 3Com, provided access to the web, e-mail and other Internet services. But it did not perform better than a mainstream PC. The manufacturer of Audrey thought of bringing in an entire line of similar dedicated devices for different rooms of the house. Audrey was expected to be more elegant than Audrey Hepburn, much easier to use than other computers and the first of a family of similar devices. But it could not stand anywhere near to these criteria.
