Tech Flops that lived in Notoriety
A robotic dog by Sony, about the size of a Chihuahua, was loved by some but not by enough. Aibo was a robot full of personality that Sony did through software that gave the owners the joy of raising a dog from puppyhood, sans the messy newspapers. The dog was also able to blog by posting photos from its built-in camera. Aibo was created by Digital Creatures Laboratory and introduced in 1999. It was able to move in a stilted fashion as far as its battery would allow. The dog was able to express happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear and dislike. But, what discouraged this robotic dog was its price which was about $2,000. Sony discontinued Aibo in 2006.
