A video game released in 1979 by Atari, Asteroids is one of the most influential games of the Golden Age of Arcade Games. The object of the game is to shoot and destroy asteroids and saucers while not colliding with either or being hit by the saucers' counter-fire. Asteroids is the first game to use Atari's "QuadraScan" vector-refresh system, a full-color version known as "Color-QuadraScan". It is also one of the first video games where it appeared that your ship was actually moving in space. The game ranks five out of five in its popularity around the time of its release and a three out of five for its difficulty levels.
