Chennai based SaaS-based company Freshdesk was founded by Girish Mathrubootham and Shan Krishnasamy in 2010, as a response to c omment on  hacker news post about how a leading customer support software company had hiked the prices up to 300 percent and made their customers unhappy.  “When we first came across the idea, we wanted our company to stand apart from the entrenched players in the customer support field whose products weren't very user friendly and were very costly, in a way that small companies could not afford them at all. The product we built was aimed at 'refreshing customer support' and giving users a completely different experience. What we were building was a completely fresh helpdesk solution; hence the name ‘Freshdesk’," says Girish Mathrubootham, Co-Founder and CEO, Freshdesk. The company was launched in 2011 and its clientele includes Craftbarrow, Epicon, Patron Base, Subscribeomatic, and many more.
