Eric Abidal, plays for France and FC Barcelona as a left or a central defender. He has represented his nation in two editions of the World cup and in 2006 France finished second losing to Italy in the penalties 5-3 and Euro 2008. Abidal might not be as high profile as his other team mates at Barcelona but he is good in his own right and that is why his team and mates respect him and treat him highly. He what you can call a good professional football player.
In March 2011 Abidal was diagnosed with a tumor in his liver and he had to undergo a surgery for it. His fans all over the world came out to support him and wish him speedy recovery. In fact on 19th March 2011, his fans at the stadium clapped for the entire 22nd minute, his shirt number.
He returned to the game after 2 months on 28th May in the Champions League final against Manchester United. He played the entire 9o minutes and his team won 3-1. Abidal’s Captain Carles Puyol gave him the captains arm band and allowed Abidal to lift the trophy at Wembley Stadium in London in front of a crowd of 85,000 people.
Nearly a year later he was in 2012 Abidal had to undergo a liver transplant because of some issues with the previous operation and he was released from the hospital on 21st May and his doctors said he could return to football if he wanted and that is what Abidal wants. He is currently practicing to return to his team and if things go well he will be back on the field by November – December 2012.
