The CEO had various names for his travel site like BouncePounce and Truvel but he had shelf them all down as he did not find them pleasing for some reason. The name got its original call when Adam Goldstein, co-founder of Hipmunk was discussing various names with his girlfriend.
She said that it was a cute animal and they could have a cute logo if they went with that name. Hipmunk.com was auctioning for about $70 at a time, and thus the name was born with a cute logo and an adorable animal.
