Scribd CEO Trip Adler says the company picked the word Scribd, because of its ties to writing and publishing. The name actually evolves from the word “Skribbed.” This website allows users to post documents of various formats, and embed them into a web page using its iPaper format.
The company decided the name of its mobile reader app, Float by highlighting the floating experiences of readers. Alder says - “We wanted something to highlight the floating reading experience, namely, the idea of reading without boundaries.”
