The ODI between India and Australia was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium Hyderabad in 2009. Tendulkar was at his best performance chasing the 350 set by Australia. However India lost quick wickets which made it hard to reach the target. Even then Sachin and Suresh Raina pulled a century in partnership until Raina lost his wicket at 59 runs. Shachin lost his wicket at 175. Like domino effect the Indian team tumbled, losing to Australia by 3 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar has been the one sports man in the Indian Cricket team who has stood for the team on many occasions. In a similar circumstance, Tendulkar opted to bat as the opening batsmen at the 1994 India in New Zealand ODI series. New Zealand had set the target of 143 for India to chase. India wrapped up the match in just 23.2 overs with Sachin scoring 82 runs before he lost his wicket to Hart.
