Only 10 percent of Indian Enterprises to adopt 3G
Mumbai: 3G auction delay may have been subjected to criticism, however, there will be no affect of it on the enterprises in India, who have no plans to adopt 3G. Even as service providers in India are looking forward to get on the 3G and WiMax bandwagon to further penetrate into the enterprise segment, a recent research by IDC India shows that only 10 percent of the enterprises from the manufacturing, BFSI and IT business verticals are planning to adopt the services in the next couple of years. While just two percent of the enterprise segment plans to adopt 3G in the next one year, IDC says enterprises in the retail segment have no plans to adopt 3G for the next years. As per IDC, WiMax is currently being mainly used by the enterprise segment. High cost of 3G- and WiMax-compatible terminals as well as low demand for very high mobile broadband bandwidth are the main reasons against adoption of the services amongst the enterprise community. The survey covered 200 companies across different verticals. Tata Communications led the market with 19% share as primary communications provider, followed by MTNL and Airtel, each having 18% share. BSNL had 4% share while RCom had 14 percent followed by players such as Aircel, Sify and Tulip. According to the survey, lack of after-sales, shortage of trained manpower and low reliability of the network, management of network and scalability of technology are some of the challenges faced by the enterprises.
