Nokia Earns More From WP8 Than What It Pays
Bangalore: The biggest supporter of Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS, Nokia said that it will receive more royalty payments this year from Microsoft than what it pays the software giant as license fee.
Based on the arrangement that took place in 2011, Nokia has been using the Windows Phone 8 software and Microsoft pays $250million a quarter to support it, while the Finish phone maker pays a minimum license fee in return. Nokia’s incoming support payments had exceeded its outgoing royalties to Microsoft last year, helping Nokia in its falling cash levels during its transition to the software.
As of 2012 end, the amount of payment support received to Nokia, has exceeded the amount of software royalty payments made to Microsoft.
Though Smartphones of Samsung and HTC come under the Windows operating platform, Nokia is still Microsoft’s preferred partner in the mobile operating systems segment.
