London: Hollywood actor Matt Damon is glad he turned down Christian Bale''s Oscar-winning role in ''The Fighter'' because his exit meant "the right actor got the part". The ''Bourne Identity'' hero had signed up to star opposite Mark Wahlberg as ''Irish'' Micky Ward''s half-brother Dicky Eklund in the movie, but subsequently dropped out along with director Darren Aronofsky, reported Dailystar. "I was supposed to play Christian''s role and I dropped out. Darren Aronofsky was going to direct it and we both dropped out. But I look at Christian''s performance and go, My God, the right actor got the part," Damon said. The part was eventually handed to Bale, who went on to win an Academy Award for his performance, but Damon insists he is not bitter about missing the chance to star in the acclaimed film.
